Audio Interview | Spec. Brant Myers
Mortar man from the Gettysburg area.
"I really didn't understand (9/11) at first. I never really paid much attention to the news, so I didn't know where it was coming from or what it was about."
Audio: "You don't hear much about Afghanistan on the news back home. ..."
Spec. Brant Myers, 23, grew up on a dairy farm near York Springs, Adams County. He joined the Army more than two years ago after talking to a recruiter for months.
"I had already signed the papers and basically told my family I was going to be in the military. ... I guess my dad kind of knew it would happen at some point in time."
He is now a member of a mortar platoon assigned to "Combat" Company. His unit is equipped with M224 60mm mortars, which can be fired conventionally from a base or as a shoulder-mounted weapon, like a bazooka.
