Afghanistan: The Forgotten War
Audio Interview | Pvt. Adam Boguskie
Gunner. Spencer County, Ky.
"When I first came to Afghanistan, I actually thought it was more of a peacekeeping mission at the time. I couldn't have been more wrong."
Pvt. Adam Boguskie joined the Army more than two years ago. He operates a "240 Bravo" - the M240B machine gun mounted in a turret in the roof of an armored Humvee.
Like many combat soldiers, Buguskie divides the military into two worlds: Grunts and Persons Other than Grunts, or POGs. In unofficial Army acronyms, noncombat soldiers are also called REMFs - which stands for, roughly, rear-echelon personnel.
