McGillin's Olde Ale House, a historic tavern that Gourmet magazine called one of the 14 "coolest bars in the U.S.," plans to tempt fate today. McGillin's will serve drinks such as "Rabbit's Foot," "4-Leaf Clover," "Black Cat" and "Open Umbrella." Spooky karaoke, featuring songs mentioning vampires, witches and werewolves, will begin at 10 p.m. at the tavern, 1310 Drury St. Philadelphia's oldest continuously operating tavern, McGillin's opened in 1860, the year Abe Lincoln was elected president. Feel the beat
Philadanco begins its 40th anniversary season with the world premiere of the ballet Bolero by Christopher L. Huggins, choreographed to music by Ravel. For this weekend only, artistic director Joan Myers Brown, named a Master of African American Choreography by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 2005, will dance. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center, 260 S. Salute to veterans
In honor of Veterans Week, the National Liberty Museum offers an exhibit on prominent veterans, including former Secretary of State Colin Powell, former Sens. Max Cleland and Bob Dole, President Theodore Roosevelt and astronaut Neil Armstrong. Members of the armed forces and law enforcement professions have free admission all year at the museum, and this week they also receive 10 percent off museum shop purchases. The National Liberty Museum, 321 Chestnut St., is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except Mondays. Admission: $7, $6 for seniors, $5 for students, $2 for children ages 5-17 accompanied by an adult, free for children younger than 5. Family admission is $15 for two adults and their children. One big, healthy family
On Saturday, you can run 12K, about 7.45 miles, along the Schuylkill to Falls Bridge to raise money for WHYY. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female runners in 10 age groups. Non-runners can support the cause by walking the 3K. The Y Kids Family Fun Zone will have games, prizes, and entertainment. The race begins at 9 a.m. in front of the Museum of Art on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Online registration is recommended. Entry fees for the 12K are $40 for WHYY members, $50 for other adults. Native spirit
Celebrate Native American Heritage Month with traditional live music, drumming, Pan American dance and Lenape dance performed by award-winning Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape dancers. Craft and food vendors, storytelling, and photography are other attractions. The celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kennedy Center at 429 JFK Way, Willingboro. Free admission.
