Free concert
The electronic indie group Chairlift will perform at noon today as part of WXPN-FM's Free at Noon concert series. The band formed in 2005 with the original plan of creating music for haunted houses. The plan changed, though, and today Chairlift will be presenting music from its album Does You Inspire You? The show is at World Cafe Live near 30th and Walnut Streets. Happy 200th, Abe!
Lincoln 200 will celebrate the anniversary of the 16th president's birth from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today through Sunday at the Independence Visitor Center at Sixth and Market Streets. The event's theme is "Lincoln Then and Now," and visitors can experience Lincoln: The Definitive Years, Lincoln's Eye on Science and Technology and Abe in the Arts. There also will be reenactors portraying historic figures including Honest Abe himself. Admission is free, although donations are accepted for military families and injured servicemen. A tasty demonstration
Food historian Susan McLellan Plaisted will use historic recipes and techniques to demonstrate the art of late-18th-century ice cream-making at Johnson Ferry House from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. The Ferry House and kitchen garden, near Washington Crossing State Park, will be open to the public. Basket weaving and gardening activities will take place throughout the afternoon. Spice up your night
Experienced salsa dancers and curious beginners are all invited to the bimonthly salsa party organized by Salsa in the Suburbs. The event will be Saturday night at the Media Inn near the intersection of Baltimore Pike and Rte. 252, Media. The doors open at 8:30 p.m., with a lesson for beginners from 9 to 10 p.m. From 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., the dance floor is open for salsa, cha-cha, merengue, and bachata. Tickets: $10, $12 at the door. How the Lenape lived
The Churchville Nature Center will offer tours of its Lenape Indian Village, allowing people to see how American Indians lived 500 years ago, before contact with European settlers. Tours of the re-created village begin at 1 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at 501 Churchville Lane, Churchville. A clay bead-making craft will be featured. Tickets: $5, free for children ages 4 and younger.
