Parking tips for fliers
I hate to pay big bucks to park my car at the airport, so I thought a site called www.airportdiscountparking.com would be just the ticket to save some cash.
What's hot, what's not: From a pull-down menu, I chose Los Angeles International Airport and June 27 as a random date. The site spat back two parking lots, ParkAir Express and Park 'N Fly, with self-park and valet park options.
I went with the self-park. Did I get a discount? Yes, you get a coupon for one day free when you stay three days at either of the two lots (not including taxes). But that didn't work for the airport in Burbank, Calif., where I got one name: Empire Parking. (The site did not list the lot's new name, Southwest Parking.) The lot was sold out for three dates I tried in May, June and July.
A better Web site is the San Francisco Bay Area-based www.aboutairportparking.com, which doesn't promise discounts but is a compendium of rates, directions (on Google maps) and user reviews and comments about airport lots around the world.
