Football recruits from Southeastern Pennsylvania

Here are some of the college choices made by football players in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Last Wednesday was the first day that players could sign national letters of intent.

Ramadan Abdullah, QB, Germantown, Rhode Island. 6-foot-1, 175. He passed his senior season for 1,263 yards and 12 touchdowns. His final career numbers were 2,681 yards and 27 TDs. He also received interest from James Madison, Morgan State, Delaware State, Temple, Syracuse, and Buffalo.

Olaniyi Adewole, LB, Upper Darby, Temple. 6-3, 220. The three-year starting middle linebacker was an all-Central League selection, though he's projected to play outside linebacker, where he can use his speed (4.4 seconds in the 40). He chose Temple over Buffalo, Akron, New Hampshire, and Columbia.

Taj Alexander, DL, Downingtown East, Rutgers. 6-6, 275. Alexander is big and strong, and his inside efforts helped the Cougars to a 10-3 record.

Rob Basile, LB, Quakertown, Princeton. 6-1, 215. This ball-hawking defender registered at least 237 career tackles. Army and Penn were also interested.

Wyatt Benson, LB, Haverford School, Temple. 6-1, 220. Patrolling the middle, he had a nonstop motor, terrific instincts, and impressive closing speed. He notched 11 tackles, including nine solo, in the overtime loss to Chestnut Hill Academy. Though he will play linebacker at Temple, he was a force as a blocker and short-yardage fullback for the Inter-Academic League tri-champions.

Seth Betancourt, OL, St. Joseph's Prep, Boston College. 6-6, 295. He is a hard worker, an excellent blocker, and surprisingly athletic. His size and wingspan engulf defenders.

Tyler Bostain, WR, Council Rock North, Cornell. 6-4, 220. With the high-leaping Bostain as a weapon, quarterback Tyler Hamilton tried to spot him all season in one-on-one situations. Also a part-time defensive end and long snapper, he had a scholarship offer from Division I-A Akron.

Brad Brown, OL, Coatesville, Monmouth. 6-0, 275. He was one of the big guys on a front line that kept the ground game going.

Corey Brown, RB/DB, Cardinal O'Hara, Ohio State. 6-1, 195. He's a lockdown cornerback who, when healthy, is as explosive as anyone as a runner. For the second time in his career, he was slowed this season by a knee injury. In addition to rushing for 1,146 yards and 11 TDs, he was a terrific kick returner.

Michael X. Brown, RB/DB, Penn Charter, St. Francis (Pa.). 5-8, 160. He is a quick-footed running back, safety, and kick returner. He rushed for 600-plus yards and scored seven touchdowns last season. He also considered Duquesne.

Ibraheim Campbell, RB/DB, Chestnut Hill Academy, Northwestern. 6-0, 195. The younger brother of Rashad Campbell, a former CHA star at Cornell, has a terrific mix of strength and speed (4.4 seconds in the 40). Others finalists for his services were Boston College, Stanford, and Vanderbilt. With his speed, vision, and open-field moves, he rushed for 1,885 yards and 28 TDs.

Joe Cenatiempo, OL, Garnet Valley, Temple. 6-9, 300. This guard has a terrific first punch, excels at moving defenders, and was one of the Jaguars' best competitors.

Leighton Dennis, DB, Conestoga, Villanova. 5-10, 165. Having grown up in nearby Paoli, the cornerback said he was always going to be a Wildcat if given the opportunity. He also considered Akron. He was also a top-notch running back.

J.D. Dzurko, OL, North Penn, Delaware. 6-3, 270. He switched from center to tackle, with a grit that helped the Knights average 36 points. He also received interest from Lafayette and Villanova.

Sam Feleccia, WR, La Salle, Delaware. 6-3, 230. When healthy, he was quarterback Drew Loughery's No. 1 target. Slowed by a high ankle sprain suffered in a preseason scrimmage, he bounced back with a bang and, as a running back, carried 22 times for a career-high 167 yards, including a 55-yard touchdown, in the state championship-game victory. He also made big catches all season.

Sharrif Floyd, DL, George Washington, Florida. 6-3, 305. With his brute strength, this blue-chip recruit regularly overpowered opposing linemen. Floyd was also a force at offensive tackle. With nearly 40 Division I-A scholarship offers, he took official visits to Florida, Southern Cal, and Ohio State.

Tyler Hamilton, QB, Council Rock North, Penn. 6-0, 185. Athletic and gritty, he was arguably the area's best dual-threat quarterback.

Brad Herzlich, LB, Conestoga, Brown. 6-3, 205. A second-team all-Inquirer pick at linebacker, he recorded 154 tackles, including 27 solo.

Mike Huf, LB, Cardinal O'Hara, Navy. 6-3, 235. His fierce and smart play at linebacker and tight end helped keep the Lions in the thick of the Catholic League AAAA race.

Marcellus Irving, RB, Garnet Valley, Lafayette. 5-10, 200. He averaged nearly 7 yards a carry as a junior.

Austin Kevitch, DB/QB, Germantown Academy, Bucknell. 6-1, 185. Quarterbacks usually threw away from this poised performer, who was terrific in man-to-man coverage.

Lee Kurfis, WR/DB, West Chester Rustin, Lehigh. 6-2, 180. While helping keep defenses honest against running back Rondell White (1,114 rushing yards), he had 13 catches for 402 yards and seven touchdowns.

Sean McGinn, OL, St. Joseph's Prep, Penn. 6-4, 257. After starting at defensive end as a junior, McGinn saw two-way duty this season.

Lonnie Richardson, DB, Strath Haven, Navy. 5-11, 185. The Associated Press named him to its all-state second team as an all-purpose player. He also received interest from Connecticut, Virginia Tech, Villanova, Maine, and Rhode Island. Richardson didn't have the kind of senior year he wanted, missing three games with a high left ankle sprain and injuring his right shoulder.

Anthony Robey, DB/WR, Norristown, Temple. 6-0, 175. Clocked at 4.33 seconds in the 40, Robey is able to drape receivers and close quickly on the ball. He intercepted five passes this season. On offense, he had 21 catches for 447 yards and three touchdowns.

Myron Ross, RB/LB, Wissahickon, Temple. 6-1, 200. Projected as a running back, Ross could also deliver the hits and easily chase down ballcarriers. He rushed for 2,215 yards. At linebacker, he registered 82 tackles and three interceptions.

Derek Schatz, OL, Council Rock South, Villanova. 6-3, 260. He also excelled on the defensive line as a senior.

Steve Sinnott, DL, La Salle, William and Mary. 6-4, 230. He is projected to play end.

Steve Szostak, OL, La Salle, Penn. 6-1, 265. A two-way stalwart, Szostak was tabbed a first-team Catholic League Division AAAA defender. He was a force at tackle on defense and guard on offense for the PIAA Class AAAA state champions.

Mike Tucker, DL, Downingtown East, Holy Cross. 6-2, 245. At end, he was one of the standouts who helped the defense shut down opponents.

Andrew Weber, DL, Garnet Valley, Cornell. 6-7, 225. His size and speed made him one of the most feared lineman in the state.

Eric Williams, DB, Pennsbury, Pittsburgh. 6-3, 205. The athletic and quick-footed Williams, also a wide receiver, made many big plays. In overtime of a 27-21, league-clinching win against Neshaminy on Nov. 6, he stepped in and batted away a fourth-and-4 pass intended for the tight end.

Matt Williams, OL, Cardinal O'Hara, James Madison. 6-3, 275. His muscle and technique helped spark speedster Corey Brown and quarterback Ryan Laughlin.

Mike Zikoski, DL, St. Joseph's Prep, Johns Hopkins. 6-1, 235. Called an "old-fashioned grunt" by Prep coach Gil Brooks, he plays with intensity, is solid against the run, and can chase down quarterbacks.

Jake Zuzek, OL, West Catholic, Navy. 6-2, 290. The center was a mainstay who, in 2008, helped the Burrs average 48 points and reach the PIAA Class AA state final. This season, he played even better.
