Morrisville proves unstoppable in N.J.

Morrisville's longest bus trip of the season provided the Bulldogs what seemed like the shortest trip home.

That's because the Bulldogs (1-6) finally earned their first win of the season, 17-0, in a nonleague game at Dwight-Englewood Community High (N.J.), a 73-mile trip.

Morrisville dominated the fourth quarter, scoring all 14 of their points after a 0-0 tie at the end of three quarters.

The Bulldogs scored three ways: on a field goal, an interception return, and a touchdown pass.

Defense, though, was the story for Morrisville as they picked off four passes, including a 40-yard interception return by Josh Davis.

Marty Murray's 32-yard field goal gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead with 10 minutes, 41 seconds left. Davis scored with 6:38 left.

After an interception, Matt Cookson found Eugene Figueroa for a 26-yard touchdown pass with 6:01 left.

Junior Matt Byer had eight carries for 61 yards and added two catches for 39 yards.

Del-Val Charter 6, Prep Charter 0 - At Southern, Marquesse Walker scored on a 25-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to give Warriors (4-2, 2-1) their fourth win of the season. Sam Jones had 100 yards on 20 carries for the Huskies (2-5, 1-2).

Ches-Mont League

Ben Petrak scored on an 11-yard run and tossed a pair of touchdown passes to lead Kennett to a 22-7 win over visiting Sun Valley.

It was the third-straight win for the Demons (3-4, 2-0) after losing their first four games.

Inter-Ac League

Ibraheim Campbell gained a school-record 310 yards and scored four touchdowns on 32 carries as Chestnut Hill Academy earned a 31-3 win at Germantown Academy.

Campbell scored on runs of 55, 5, 1 and 11 yards as the Blue Devils (5-2, 1-0) won their league opener.

Campbell broke the record set by his brother, Rashad Campbell, who set the mark of 288 yards two years ago. Rashad is now at Cornell.

Malvern Prep 53, Episcopal Academy 8 - The Friars (5-0, 1-0), No. 2 in The Inquirer Top 10, made a strong statement for moving up by handing the Churchmen (5-1, 0-1) their first loss.

The Friars did it without having to pass, scoring eight touchdowns on running plays, four of them by Billy Connors. He finished with 74 yards on six carries.

Independence League

Host Academy of the New Church solidified its hold on first place by beating crosstown Bryn Athyn rival Lower Moreland, 34-21, in a battle of league unbeatens.

Shannon Givens tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Warren Gillis and scored on a 3-yard scramble.

ANC is now 4-2 overall, 3-0 league. Lower Moreland dropped to 5-2, 1-1.

Dez Lites, who scored on a 60-yard run to open the game, had 150 yards rushing to lead ANC.
