Scholastic sports museum to be built in Easton
The High School Sports Hall of Fame Museum will be built in Easton, a sporting hotbed known for its wrestling programs and its century-old football rivalry with neighboring Phillipsburg, N.J.
Easton's mayor and museum officials made the announcement yesterday.
The $20 million museum will highlight inductees who, as girls and boys, excelled in 20 high school sports.
The museum is to open in the summer of 2011 and will be run by the National High School Coaches Association.
Those who have been honored by the association have included NBA stars LeBron James and Dwight Howard; Joe Mauer, the American League batting champion; and Allyson Felix, the Olympic gold-medal sprinter.
