Schalick, Holy Cross win titles
Perry, who extended her school record for goals in a season to 31, capitalized on the seven-on-seven overtime format and got lose on a breakaway from 50 yards, beating two defenders to get a clear shot.
"She cracked a shot and just fired it into the side and the backboard," Schalick's fourth-year coach Anne Marie Mercado said. "She tossed her stick in the air because she was exhausted from playing the whole game and sprinting."
Cougars goalie Ellen Boring made six saves for her 13th shutout, putting Schalick in the state semifinals on Thursday against Holy Cross at Bishop Eustace.
Central Jersey Group 1. Holy Cross spotted host New Egypt a 1-0 lead before rallying behind Allie Jillions' two goals to claim a 2-1 sectional championship victory.
Courtney Natalicchio scored from Nicole Coyne to give the Warriors a lead midway through the first half, but Jillions tied the score on a free hit in the final minute of the half.
"They were right on mark when they came back out" after New Egypt's goal, Lancers second-year coach Hillary Richards said. "I don't think they hesitated at all after that goal. They just continued to attack."
Jillions scored again in the fifth minute of the second half, poking in a rebound of her own shot, and Lancers goalie Kate Cusack (six saves) stopped the Warriors the rest of the way.
Central Jersey Group 2. Elise DiDonato assisted on Bishop Eustace's first goal and scored the game-winner, steering the Crusaders to their second straight sectional title, 2-1, over visiting Rumson-Fair Haven.
Sam Livecchi netted the first goal off a penalty corner in the fourth minute of the game, and Rumson's Abby Eastwood tied the score before halftime.
DiDonato, one of seven senior starters and Eustace's leading scorer, made an impressive individual move to break the tie 10 minutes into the second half. DiDonato dodged a pair of defenders, went around the goalie, tucking her 26th goal of the season into the corner of the cage.
Crusaders goalie Megan Comunale stopped seven shots.
