Wood boys again win district soccer title
Archbishop Wood got four goals and an assist from Tom Baker and beat Franklin Towne Charter, 6-0, to win the District 12 Class AA boys' soccer championship at Charlie Martin Memorial Stadium last night.
Ryan Joyce and John Strecker added goals, Chris Wilson contributed a pair of assists and Rob Steck and Mike Trodden each picked up an assist. Nick Aglira and Chris Wilson each stopped two shots for the Vikings.
Wood beat FTC last year in the title game, 10-0.
District 1 Class A. Johnny Rajabi and Brandon Reichart picked up second-half goals and led Christopher Dock past Faith Christian, 2-0, in the championship game at Truman.
Tri-County. Gabe Duec came through for Barrack Hebrew all season, and he did it again in the league championship game.
Duec scored the lone goal of the game midway through the second half and gave the Cougars the title with a 1-0 win over visiting West-Mont Christian.
Duec, who notched a school-record 30 goals this season, scored off an assist from Eliyahu Korn. Evan Benedict earned the shutout for Barrack after stopping five shots.
Girls' Volleyball
Katrina Pisch recorded 16 kills to boost Merion Mercy past Sun Valley for the District 1 Class AA championship at Norristown.The Golden Bears won, 25-16, 25-12, 25-12 and will meet Southern Lehigh in a PIAA Class AA first-round match on Tuesday.
Football
Sean Allen scored on Southern's first attempt in overtime and gave the Rams an 18-12 nonleague win over Furness at 11th & Bigler.Allen, who rushed for 125 yards and had four returns for 135 yards, scored the game-winner after the Falcons (5-5) went four-and-out to start overtime.
West Philadelphia 26, Prep Charter 6 - Robert Andrews rushed for more than 100 yards and a touchdown to lead the Speedboys (5-4) past the visiting Huskies (2-7).
Girls' Soccer
Michelle Drossner collected a goal and an assist to lead Penn Charter past visiting Germantown Academy, 3-0, in an Inter-Ac League game.In another league game, Julia Ramsey scored midway through the second half and helped Baldwin tie visiting Springside, 1-1.
Field Hockey
Kali Kilmer scored the last of her two goals with 7:26 left in the game and pulled Germantown Academy into a 2-2 tie with host Penn Charter in an Inter-Ac League game.
