Boys' and girls' soccer semfinals tonight
Boys
No. 8 seed Central Bucks East vs. No. 4 Unionville at West Chester East, 7 p.m.Central Bucks East never expected to be in this position after losing nine two-year starters from a state playoff team last season. But the Patriots have allowed just eight goals all season. A powerful Unionville offense could be their greatest test yet.
No. 7 Downingtown West vs. No. 6 Souderton at West Chester Henderson, 7 p.m.
The Whippets, defending state champs, quietly breezed through the regular season. Souderton advanced against Suburban One League Continental rival Pennridge on penalty kicks. Downingtown West keeper Bobby Rosato could be the difference this time.
Girls
No. 5 Downingtown East at No. 1 Downingtown West, 7 p.m.The rivals meet again. West won both regular-season games. But Downingtown East is on a hot streak. The Cougars beat two quality teams - Lower Merion and Boyertown - to get to the semifinals.
No. 7 West Chester Henderson vs. No. 3 Villa Joseph Marie, at Conestoga, 7 p.m.
Villa Joseph Marie's only loss was a forfeit to Strath Haven. The Jems have steamrollered through the District 1 tournament. But Henderson just took down two-time and defending state champion Conestoga.
