Emmons airs it out in Pennsville romp
Ken Emmons, who rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns, completed 14 passes for 242 yards and four scores to fuel Pennsville's 40-12 nonleague road win.
But even in defeat, Middle Township quarterback Nolan Quinn broke the Cape-Atlantic League career passing record with a 12-for-26 outing that produced 184 yards, pushing his four-year total to 4,828 yards.
Ed Byrnes held the previous league mark of 4,770 yards.
Emmons, a junior, had several targets to choose from, with Colton Newsome hauling in a pair of TD tosses and Mitch Weiser making three catches for 100 yards - the last a 69-yard scoring bomb in the third quarter for the Eagles (4-0).
Quinn's lone TD pass was a 16-yarder to Charles Cooper that pulled the Panthers (0-4) within 13-6 in the first half.
Burlco/Olympic Freedom
Maple Shade lost possession of first place in the Freedom Division when Palmyra's Steven Morris found Alonzo Sadler with a 62-yard touchdown pass with 1 minute, 58 seconds left for a 20-13 win at Maple Shade.Maple Shade (3-2, 3-1) had taken a 13-12 lead earlier in the quarter when Kevin Eldridge fell on a fumble in the end zone.
The Panthers (3-2, 2-0) got TD runs from Derrick Dyer and Alonzo Sadler.
Florence 24, Burlington City 12 - Dakota Benish's 21-yard field goal with eight minutes remaining gave Florence (2-2, 1-1) the surprise at City (2-2, 2-1), which missed a chance to take over first place in the division.
Sam Ugowe supplied a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Flashes, and Davon Jones scored on two short runs for Burlington City.
Burlco/Olympic Liberty
Three touchdown runs by Ben Schwing enabled Shawnee (2-2, 2-1) to pull away to a 46-18 victory at Triton.Freshman running back Josh Woods led the Mustangs (1-4, 0-2) with 18 carries for 104 yards and two scores.
Colonial Liberty
Mike Sloan broke off scoring runs of 81 and 44 yards, finishing with 184 yards on 13 carries, helping host Overbrook (2-3, 2-2) overcome a slow start to defeat Sterling, 20-14.Devon Bouche ran for 89 yards and one score for Sterling (0-4, 0-2).
Tri-County Classic
Jon Goldsboro carried the ball 18 times for 175 yards and two touchdowns, igniting Schalick's offense to a 33-14 Classic Division victory over visiting Salem (1-3, 1-1).The Cougars (3-2, 1-0) had a solid defensive effort, led by nine tackles from Marc Mackiewicz.
Tri-County Diamond
Glassboro scored four times from its own side of midfield, including a 62-yard TD run by Paul James, to remain perfect with a 34-7 victory at Gloucester.Khalil Adams returned a punt 54 yards, Corey Clement dashed 59 yards and Lamont Smith hauled in a 54-yard pass from Brandon Stephens to round out the big-play bonanza by the Bulldogs (4-0, 1-0). Gloucester (1-4, 0-3) averted its first shutout of the season, thanks to Sunny Bryan's 41-yard fumble return in the fourth quarter.
Nonleague
Dominick Askins returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown and added a pair of rushing TDs in the third quarter, putting Millville (3-2) on track for a 22-6 victory at Buena (2-2).
