The four other finalists for honor
Here is a look at the other girls in the running for female athlete of the year:
Carlie Rouh, Eastern. Rouh was an Inquirer first-team all-South Jersey selection in lacrosse after leading South Jersey with 106 goals. She helped a young Eastern team to a 14-6 record and a No. 28 ranking in the state by Laxpower.com. Rouh was a starter on defense on Eastern's field hockey team that was ranked No. 1 in South Jersey by The Inquirer and won the Tournament of Champions title. She has earned a field hockey scholarship to Rutgers.
Natalia Torosian, Lenape. Torosian was The Inquirer's South Jersey player of the year in soccer. Known for her unselfish play, Torosian totaled 11 goals and 17 assists and was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) all-American team. She led Lenape to consecutive state Group 4 titles. The team finished 25-0 and the NSCAA ranked it seventh in the nation. Torosian was recently named the National High School Coaches Association of Girls' Soccer player of the year. She has earned a soccer scholarship to the University of Florida.
Michelle Tumolo, Clearview. A three-sport athlete, Tumolo was an Inquirer first-team all-South Jersey selection in lacrosse after totaling 65 goals and 41 assists. She finished with 270 career goals and 121 assists. A second-team all-conference midfielder in soccer, she helped the Pioneers win the Tri-County Royal Division title. She was the starting point guard for a Clearview team that earned a share of the Tri-County Royal Division basketball championship. Tumolo was recently named to the Under Armour all-American Lacrosse Classic, which will be staged June 27 at Towson University. She has earned a lacrosse scholarship to Syracuse University.
Katie Duffey, Lenape. Duffey is a three-sport athlete who has earned 11 varsity letters, three in soccer and four each in lacrosse and indoor track and field. She was limited to six games this season in lacrosse because of pneumonia, but still scored 34 goals. Duffey finished her career with 240 goals. She was also a key member of the indoor track team's 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams and the distance medley squad. In soccer, she played on consecutive state Group 4 championships teams and was an Inquirer first-team all-South Jersey selection as a midfielder. She scored the winning goal in Lenape's 1-0 victory over Ridge in the Group 4 state final. Duffey will attend Johns Hopkins on a lacrosse scholarship.
