NFL: Cutler fined $20,000 for abusive behavior
The fine came one day after Cutler threw five interceptions during a 10-6 loss at San Francisco. Cutler has thrown an NFL-worst 17 interceptions this season for the Bears (4-5).
The NFL also said defensive lineman Tommie Harris had been fined $7,500 for punching Cardinals offensive lineman Deuce Lutui on the fourth play from scrimmage.
Harris was ejected and later apologized.
Bengals. Chad Ochocinco's pretend $1 bribe is costing him a lot more. The Cincinnati receiver was fined $20,000 and reprimanded by the NFL for taking a dollar bill onto the field during an officials' review of one of his catches on Sunday. Ochocinco held the dollar in his right hand at his side but didn't give it to the official, who motioned for him to stay away.
Ochocinco said he was just having fun, but the league didn't like it.
Browns. Coach Eric Mangini defended the length and intensity of his practices after running back Jamal Lewis complained that Cleveland's players are being worked too hard.
Lewis said Thursday that Mangini was wearing out his players during the week with 21/2- to 3-hour workouts, and that by the time kickoff rolls around on Sunday, they have nothing left.
Mangini maintains his practices are not any longer or more physical than ones he's conducted in the past.
"Two hours of work on the field is a very reasonable time," said Mangini, who is 1-7 in his first season.
Patriots. The governor of Massachusetts said there is no connection between big donations to him and the Democratic Party from the family that owns the New England Patriots and the state's support for development across the road from Gillette Stadium.
Gov. Deval Patrick said Patriots owner Robert Kraft had asked him about using $9 million in federal stimulus money on a footbridge to an industrial site he owns across Route 1 from the stadium. Patrick said the state supports it because the infrastructure will spur development and job creation.
Patrick says he has not requested a donation in return.
