Delaware Valley capitalizes

Delaware Valley College defeated Johns Hopkins, 23-7, in Doylestown yesterday in their first-ever meeting on the football field, capitalizing on a Blue Jays turnover early in the third quarter, when the score was tied, 7-7.

The Aggies' Chad Peterman recovered a mishandled punt on the Blue Jays' 42-yard line. Two plays later, quarterback Mike Isgro fired a scoring strike to Peterman in the season opener for both teams.

Albright 28, Ursinus 3 - Quarterback Tanner Kelly threw for 242 yards and two touchdowns as the Lions won the opener in Collegeville.

Bears quarterback Justin Decristofaro, a Father Judge graduate, completed 15 of 35 passes for 214 yards, with two interceptions.

College of N.J. 47, Buffalo State 31 - The Lions scored four touchdowns on plays of more than 40 yards in defeating the Bengals in the season opener in Ewing, N.J.

Justin Doniloski began the scoring spree, rushing for a 46-yard TD 1:29 into the game. After Buffalo State connected on a field goal, Scotty Mathurin returned the kickoff 82 yards to the end zone.

Mike Yetka scampered 50 yards into the end zone in the second quarter for a 35-24 lead, and Bill Picatagi raced 43 yards for a fourth-quarter score.

Mercyhurst 45, Cheyney 15 - Ron Hunter ran 60 yards for a first-quarter TD for the Wolves (0-2).

But the Lakers (1-1) scored 38 consecutive points to win the game in Erie.

New Haven 33, Lincoln 10 - The Lions (1-1) scored all their points against the Chargers (1-0) in the third quarter on Rahsaan Lisimba's 24-yard field goal and Kareem Dennis's 1-yard touchdown pass to Trey Thomas.
