LOS ANGELES - The 76ers will get a chance to see who they are without Andre Iguodala.

On Friday, the Sixers said that the swingman will be sidelined for five games and will not see on-court activity until Jan. 10. Iguodala was on the inactive list for Friday night's game against the Los Angeles Lakers, missing his third consecutive game.

Iguodala, who is averaging 14.2 points per game and has been the face of the franchise for the last three seasons, has missed about a third of this season with right Achilles tendinitis.

Sixers coach Doug Collins said that the team is hopeful that this final, extended rest would cure Iguodala of his lingering injury.

"What we did was, when he went and got a second opinion, both doctors were in agreement that if he's going to take some time off, give it a significant amount of time," Collins said. "What happened last time was he took seven or eight days off and he was feeling much better, [but] he came back and he didn't get it out of his system."

Without Iguodala, Collins started Jrue Holiday, Jodie Meeks, Andres Nocioni, Elton Brand, and Spencer Hawes. Despite Nocioni being the starting small forward, Iguodala's absence provided an opening for rookie Evan Turner. On Wednesday against the Phoenix Suns, Turner scored 23 points on 9-for-12 shooting from the floor.

"He's kind of embraced that role," Brand said of Turner's off-the-bench role. "He's embraced it. He knows, 'We'll be OK,' that's his mind-set; he's ready for extended minutes."

After Wednesday's effective performance from Turner, Collins was talking about putting Turner on Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant. Collins said that Turner now "knows he's going to be out there."

"I'm just going to come out and try to be aggressive and make the most out of my minutes," Turner said. "I'm going to go out and attack and not second-guess things."

The road swing. Friday's game against the Lakers was the penultimate game of this 15-day trip, which concludes at the New Orleans Hornets Monday.
