The 76ers will interview former Toronto Raptors coach Sam Mitchell on Sunday, according to a source close to the situation.

Mitchell, 46, will be the third candidate officially interviewed by Sixers president and general manager Ed Stefanski. He has already formally interviewed Doug Collins and Avery Johnson for the team's coaching vacancy.

Stefanski is set to meet with Portland Trail Blazers assistant coach Monty Williams on Monday.

Stefanski, whose job still hasn't been guaranteed, has been joined in the interview process by assistant general manager Tony DiLeo and team consultant Gene Shue.

On April 15, Stefanski fired coach Eddie Jordan less than 24 hours after he finished his first season with a record of 27-55.

Mitchell was named NBA coach of the year in 2007; he has a career coaching record of 156-189. A month into the 2008-09 season, the Raptors fired Mitchell, whose NBA playing career spanned from 1989 to 2002.

The 38-year-old Williams played 10 seasons in the NBA, including a brief stint with the Sixers during the 2002-03 season. Williams spent the 2004-05 season as a coaching staff intern on the Spurs' NBA championship team before joining Nate McMillan's staff in 2005.

In addition to the Sixers, four other NBA teams have a coaching vacancy: the New Orleans Hornets, New Jersey Nets, Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls.

The Sixers are not expected to make a coaching hire until well into the NBA playoffs, when other up-and-coming assistant coaches become available for interviews. The Sixers are still expected to contact the Boston Celtics' Tom Thibodeau, the San Antonio Spurs' Mike Budenholzer and the Dallas Mavericks' Dwane Casey.
