NFL: Woodson donates $2 million to hospital
Charles Woodson wants to be known as more than a football player.
Donating $2 million to the new University of Michigan Mott Children's Hospital and Women's Hospital gives him a chance to do that.
The school announced Woodson's gift yesterday before he played for the Packers in Green Bay's 34-12 victory over the Lions in Detroit.
Then he intercepted two passes - returning one for a score - forced a fumble, recovered it, and had a sack.
His donation will support pediatric research by the Charles Woodson Clinical Research Fund in the $754 million, 1.1-million-square-foot hospital scheduled to open in 2012.
"I want to be part of that symbol of hope," Woodson said. "So that they can say, 'I know I can beat this thing, and there's people out there who will help me beat it."'
Falcons. Atlanta running back Michael Turner practiced lightly yesterday for the second day in a row, and backup Jerious Norwood was a full participant.
Turner missed Sunday's 34-31 loss to the New York Giants with a high ankle sprain.
Norwood has missed the last five games with a hip flexor but has been in practice the last two days.
Rams. St. Louis running back Steven Jackson did not practice for the second consecutive day while recovering from lower-back spasms, but the team remains confident he will play Sunday against Seattle.
