NFL: Report: Shanahan and Bills talk

Two-time Super Bowl winner Mike Shanahan met with the Buffalo Bills over two days to discuss their head coaching vacancy, ESPN.com reported.

According to the Web site, Bills chief operating officer Russ Brandon traveled to Denver and spent seven hours meeting with Shanahan on Monday night and Tuesday morning. Shanahan said it was "an excellent meeting."

The former Denver Broncos coach said the sides agreed to stay in touch to see what develops. Shanahan has been out of football since Denver fired him after last season.

The Bills named Perry Fewell interim coach last week after Dick Jauron was fired.

Guard Eric Wood is recuperating in a Jacksonville, Fla., hospital three days after the rookie guard suffered two broken bones in his left leg, the Bills said. Wood had surgery to repair the compound fracture hours after he was hurt in an 18-15 loss to the Jaguars. Kendall Simmons, who was signed Tuesday, is expected to start in Wood's place on Sunday.

Browns. Saying he was frustrated at losing when he suggested the Detroit Lions faked injuries in Sunday's game, Cleveland coach Eric Mangini backed off the claim. Mangini had suggested that Lions defensive players pretended to be hurt to slow down Cleveland's no-huddle offense in Detroit's 38-37 win. Mangini noted that several Lions left the field with injuries, only to return. Lions coach Jim Schwartz has said Mangini was "way out of bounds" in questioning the Lions' motives. Mangini said the two have "cleared the air."

Giants. Running back Ahmad Bradshaw won't play at Denver tonight because of a sprained left ankle. Linebacker Antonio Pierce won't play.
