Baseball Notes: Pujols again NL MVP
The St. Louis first baseman won unanimously yesterday, becoming the first player to repeat since Bonds won four in a row from 2001 to 2004.
Pujols, who also won in 2005, received all 32 first-place votes in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. He became the first unanimous MVP since Bonds in 2002.
The Phillies' Ryan Howard finished third, behind runner-up Hanley Ramirez, the Florida Marlins shortstop.
Chase Utley was eighth in the voting, and both Jayson Werth and Shane Victorino also received votes.
Pujols led the majors in home runs (47), runs (124), slugging percentage (.658), and intentional walks (44).
Mets seeking good luck? New York will wear home pinstriped uniforms next season that are a retro design with a natural color, similar to those worn by the 1969 World Series champions.
Also, Dave Jauss was named the team's bench coach and Chip Hale will take over as third-base coach as Razor Shines shifts to first.
