Delaware Valley explodes in win
The Aggies set a school scoring record in a 66-7 playoff thumping of Susquehanna.
After the Aggies fumbled the opening kickoff, Susquehanna took a 7-0 lead just 13 seconds into the game. But Delaware Valley erupted, gaining a total of 642 yards.
Leading the surge were junior tailback Matt Cook (20 carries, 156 yards, two touchdowns); senior quarterback Mike Isgro (17 of 22 passing, 259 yards, four total touchdowns); and the Aggies' defense (four interceptions).
"Delaware Valley is not 60 points better than us," Susquehanna coach Steve Briggs said. "But today they were."
Delaware Valley's point total broke the previous record of 58, set in 2005 against Juniata College.
"That's a program record?" Aggies fourth-year coach Jim Clements asked afterward. "I didn't know that. . . . Well, as long as we don't turn the ball over on offense, we can do some things."
Cook set a Delaware Valley record for career rushing touchdowns with 30.
After falling behind early, Delaware Valley closed the gap on Jack Sobchak's 23-yard field goal and went ahead on Isgro's 15-yard scoring run.
The floodgates opened in the second quarter, when Delaware Valley's Mike Jaskowski, Ryan McCullough, and Troy Green intercepted Susquehanna sophomore quarterback Rich Palazzi on three straight possessions, setting up both of Cook's scores. By halftime, the Aggies led by 24 points.
