St. Joe's, La Salle sign hoop prospects

St. Joseph's signed three basketball players ranked among the nation's top 150 prospects by Rivals.com, and La Salle, which announced two signings Saturday, added a highly regarded point guard to next season's class.

The weeklong fall period for recruits to sign binding NCAA letters of intent ends tomorrow.

The Hawks announced the signings of C.J. Aiken, a 6-foot-9 center from Plymouth Whitemarsh; Langston Galloway, a 6-3 combination guard from Baton Rouge, La.; and Daryus Quarles, a 6-7 forward from Paulsboro.

La Salle signed Sam Mills, a 6-3 point guard from Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Mills received a rating of four stars out of five from Scout.com, which ranks him as the nation's No. 21 prospect at point guard. Among the schools that courted Mills were Auburn, Florida State, Marshall, Northwestern, Georgia Tech, and Delaware.

Mills will join 6-0 point guard Tyreek Duren of Neumann-Goretti and 6-10 center Matt Lopez from Washington Township. Both signed Saturday.

Duren is ranked No. 32 at point guard by Scout.com, receiving three stars.

By signing Mills and Duren, La Salle joins Duke as the only schools that have locked up two top-35 point guards.

"Sam is a great addition to our program," Explorers coach John Giannini said. "He is a highly talented guard with a great work ethic and a very impressive academic record.

"He received recruiting attention from various basketball powers. He saw an opportunity to make an immediate impact on a talented team at La Salle. I feel Sam, Tyreek, and Matt Lopez will have much success together."

Aiken received a four-star rating from Rivals.com, which ranks him No. 8 among center prospects and No. 73 among all prospects.

Galloway and Quarles both received three-star ratings from Rivals.com. All three gave St. Joe's early oral commitments.

"We're delighted to add C.J., Langston, and Daryus, not only to our basketball program, but to our university community," Hawks coach Phil Martelli said. "All three players have bright futures."
