Redskins' Hall plans complaint over melee

Washington Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall says he will file a complaint with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell about what Hall says were cheap shots from coaches on his former team during a sideline melee against the Falcons yesterday in Atlanta.

Hall said he was just trying to pull teammate LaRon Landry away from the Atlanta sideline after Landry was called for a late hit on Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan. Hall said that Falcons director of athletic performance Jeff Fish had tried to "get some licks in" and that Falcons coach Mike Smith had "cussed me out" as Falcons players and staff members surrounded Hall.

"I'm going to get on the horn with Commissioner Goodell, and we're going to figure out a way how to nip this in the bud," Hall said. "It's different with me coming in trying to break stuff up, and as a strength coach, if you're coming at me and you're trying to get [expletive] licks, that ain't how you do things.

"They need to have some repercussions, and something needs to happen to them, too."

Hall had talked all week of being bitter at the way he was treated by the Falcons, who traded him after the 2007 season.

Report: Browns want Holmgren. ESPN reported that one of the first people Cleveland owner Randy Lerner will contact to run his team, if he hasn't contacted him already, is former Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren, according to a team source. Holmgren is apparently itching to return to football. Lerner is looking for someone to perform for the Browns the role that vice president of football operations Bill Parcells fills for the Dolphins.

Bengals' Henry breaks arm. Cincinnati receiver Chris Henry broke his left forearm when he was tackled after a catch, putting the rest of his season in doubt.

Henry caught a 10-yard pass and was tackled by Baltimore Ravens cornerback Fabian Washington, who landed on him as they hit the ground. Henry immediately grabbed his left forearm, just above the wrist.

Colts set records. Indianapolis coach Jim Caldwell became the first rookie coach to start 8-0 since Potsy Clark in 1930, while quarterback Peyton Manning earned his 125th victory, tying him for fourth with Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton on the career list. Manning, the three-time MVP, also became the first player in league history to throw for 40,000 yards within a decade.

Portis' head injury. Washington running back Clinton Portis was sidelined after a blow to the head from Atlanta Falcons safety Thomas DeCoud. Portis left the game with 3 minutes, 20 seconds remaining in the first quarter after the helmet-to-helmet hit. The Redskins said Portis had a head injury and would not return. There was no penalty on the hit.

Washington quarterback Jason Campbell left the game with an ankle injury in the fourth quarter. He was hurt when tackled from behind by Jonathan Babineaux.

Bears' Harris ejected. Chicago defensive tackle Tommie Harris was ejected from the game against Arizona after just 65 seconds of play for slugging Cardinals offensive tackle Deuce Lutui. The Bears got a 15-yard unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty.

Bucs honor Selmon. Though they chose to do so wearing those ghastly Creamsicle jerseys of another era, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers honored one of their best players before their win over the Green Bay Packers. The team made Hall of Famer Lee Roy Selmon the first inductee into the Ring of Honor at Raymond James Stadium.
