Sports in Brief: Watney shoots 64 in Shanghai
American Ryan Moore shot a 66 to join Shane Lowry of Ireland and Martin Kaymer of Germany in second place in the World Golf Championship event.
Tiger Woods was in a four-way tie at 67.
COLLEGES: Jackie Moore, a 28-year-old assistant women's basketball coach in her third season at Eastern Illinois, died suddenly Wednesday night at a hospital in Charleston, Ill., after collapsing as she started a workout. An autopsy is planned.
TENNIS: A Belgian anti-doping tribunal suspended U.S. Open semifinalist Yanina Wickmayer, 18, for one year for allegedly failing to report her whereabouts to anti-doping officials three times.
Without Serena and Venus Williams, who withdrew last week, the United States is relying on 18-year-old Melanie Oudin and veteran doubles specialist Liezel Huber in the Fed Cup final against host Italy. The best-of-five series starts tomorrow in Reggio Calabria.
Oudin was a surprise U.S. Open quarterfinalist.
Italy features two top-20 players in Flavia Pennetta and Francesca Schiavone.
SAILING: The most contentious America's Cup in the 158-year history of the event could be headed to Australia if the teams can agree to end their long, bitter court fight.
Defending champion Alinghi of Switzerland told a New York judge that it would race American challenger BMW Oracle Racing off Australia in February as a compromise. Alinghi still prefers to race in the Persian Gulf.
BOXING: Paul Williams (37-1, 27 knockouts) finally has found an opponent for his next bout, choosing Sergio Martinez (44-1-2, 24 KOs) to replace injured Kelly Pavlik in a WBC middleweight fight.
Heavyweight Chris Arreola also will fight on the Dec. 5 card at the Boardwalk Hall Ballroom in Atlantic City.
Pavlik, the middleweight champ, had backed out of two dates because of an infection in his left hand.
Amanda Rodrigues, the widow of boxing champion Arturo Gatti, whose death in Brazil in July was ruled a suicide by police, lost her bid for $140,000 she was seeking from the boxer's estate. However, she was awarded $37,500 in Montreal to cover legal fees and child-care costs.
TRACK AND FIELD: The South African track official who lied about his role in runner Caster Semenya's gender tests has been suspended, the nation's top sports body said.
Athletics South Africa president Leonard Chuene and the rest of the track body's 12-member board were suspended pending investigations into their handling of Semenya's case.
Semenya, 18, won the 800-meter world championship in August after the International Association of Athletics Federations said it had ordered gender tests.
Chuene later said he lied about his knowledge of the tests to protect Semenya's privacy.
SOCCER: Javier Morales and Robbie Findley scored first-half goals as Real Salt Lake advanced to the MLS Eastern Conference final with a 3-2 victory over the defending MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew in Ohio. New England is at Chicago tomorrow night to determine Real Salt Lake's opponent.
The Kixx re-signed defender Pat Morris, the Northeast Catholic graduate who finished third in the Major Indoor Soccer League with 51 points last season.
