A cure for Series hangover

The following is a partial transcript from yesterday's fantasy football chat with John Gonzalez on Philly.com:

Gonzo: It wasn't a dream. The Yanks actually won the World Series last night. What a bummer it is to write that. Sure was a great run while it lasted, though.

Best cure for a World Series hangover is a little fantasy football talk. Let's get this party started.

Tarz: Gonzo, need to start 2 out of these 4 WRs: Marshall, Bowe, Crabtree, & Breaston? All have pretty favorable matchups this week.

Gonzo: Crabtree looks pretty good so far. Didn't expect that. For now, though, he's still a tier behind Marshall and Bowe. I'd start them. Use Crabtree as a No. 3 WR if you play in a flex league.

mike: Gonzo I'm in trouble. I have to start 2 RBs each week. I have DeAngelo Williams, Steve Slaton, and Larry Johnson. LJ is suspended and Slaton got benched. I picked up Moats and Mike Bell is still on waivers. I clearly start Williams, but do I go with Slaton, Moats, or neither and roll the dice with Bell?

Gonzo: The Saints running back situation is completely squirrely. It's like trying to figure out which Pedro Martinez is going to show up - the guy who pitched Game 2 or the guy who threw Game 6. I've honestly given up even trying. You have a better chance of guessing the lottery numbers correctly than predicting which Saints running back will have a good game.

I think Slaton bounces back this week. That's just a hunch, though.

They stop him again: Joe Flacco or Philip Rivers, Steve Smith (NYG) or Antonio Bryant?

Gonzo: Rivers for sure. And Smith. Not even Antonio Bryant would start Antonio Bryant.

Rob: Hi Gonz. Warner or Flacco? Also, picking two from Barber, Mendenhall or Pierre Thomas.

Gonzo: Hi Rob. Flacco. I'd rather have my QB going against Cincy than Chi-town. Thomas has a great matchup this week. He's in. Tough call on the other two. I think Barber is a little better, so I'd go with him. But I'm not crazy about either one of them.

Jeff: Hi Gonzo, I'm in a good position. . . . I have too many good receiving options in a league where we play WR/TE at the same spot, but I still need to pick 3 of the following: Calvin Johnson, Michael Crabtree, Hines Ward, Greg Jennings, and Dallas Clark.

Gonzo: Megatron if he actually gets on the field. Greg Jennings because even the UFL team in Florida could run up points on the Bucs. And Hines Ward because I tend to like him a little better each week than the other options.

Coach: Gonz, I've been offered Derrick Mason and Matt Schaub for Marques Colston and Eli Manning. What do you think?

Gonzo: Not a terrible move if you need QB help. Sounds like you could be in one of my leagues. This 20-something who works with Wax tried to trade me Ray Rice and Shady McCoy for DeSean Jackson. I think he thinks I just fell off the Fantasy Football truck. Kids these days.

Roscoe: Any suggestion on waiver wire WRs to look at? I know Maclin is available in most leagues as is Malcolm Floyd.

Gonzo: Maclin isn't a terrible option, but you just don't know what you're getting out of him. Then again, if you're relying on him to be a No. 2 WR, you're probably cooked anyway.

Pete: I'm struggling with QBs and I just got Vince Young in a deal where I didn't give up too much. Can he at least give some fantasy points?

Gonzo: This is easily the most desperate question I've received all year. You're asking if Vince Young (!) can help your team. Get in bed and pull the covers over your head, Pete. It's a dark day.

Guest: If the Ind v. Hou game will be high scoring, isn't Moats a very good option to start?

Gonzo: Maybe, but only if you think the Slaton benching is permanent. I just can't imagine sticking him on the shelf and letting him collect dust every week in favor of failed Andy Reid experiment Ryan Moats. Doesn't add up.

dan: Gonzo, need help . . . Wes Welker or Laurence Maroney in a flex spot this week? Or both, and bench Crabtree?

Gonzo: Welker. Maroney is the stripper of fantasy football - completely fake. He'll tease you and break your heart.

BTW: I have him on one of my teams. I'm a pathetic wretch. Then, regular readers already knew that.
