The New York Yankees removed starting centerfielder Melky Cabrera from the roster before last night's fifth game of the World Series because of a strained hamstring and replaced him with rookie infielder Ramiro Pena.

Cabrera, who had been hitting .271 in the postseason, suffered the injury Sunday night while running out a ground ball in the sixth inning of Game 4. After talking to the trainer, he jogged out to his position for the bottom of the sixth but was lifted before play resumed.
Brett Gardner replaced Cabrera in center field in the lineup for Game 5. He made a great catch crashing into the wall in left-center, robbing Jayson Werth of an extra base hit in the fifth inning.
