Sports in Brief: Wings trade Van Beek for a pick

The Philadelphia Wings traded transition player Rob Van Beek to the Calgary Roughnecks in exchange for a second-round selection in the 2010 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft, according to general manager David Huntley. Van Beek was a first-round selection of the 2004 NLL entry draft by the Wings.

TENNIS: Andre Agassi used crystal meth periodically for "a year or so," the eight-time Grand Slam champion revealed in an interview with People magazine. In his coming autobiography, Agassi admits he used crystal meth in 1997 and failed a drug test - a result that he says was thrown out after he lied by saying he "unwittingly" took the substance.

HORSE RACING: New York's top racetracks are off-limits to trainer Jeff Mullins for six months. The New York Racing Association barred the trainer from Aqueduct, Belmont and Saratoga yesterday for violating its barn rules by giving one of his horses an unknown substance and then providing conflicting information about it.

COLLEGES: Kentucky freshman point guard John Wall has been cleared to play by the NCAA. He must sit out two games and repay almost $800 in expenses incurred during unofficial visits to schools during his junior year at Word of God Christian Academy.

Junior guard Chase Bufurd is the second Kansas basketball player who has been given a chance to wipe his record clean of drunken-driving charges. The 21-year-old, who was pulled over in July , must pay $802 in fees. He is prohibited from consuming alcohol for one year and is required to undergo substance-abuse treatment.
