Garnett scares Celts

Kevin Garnett slipped on the fabled parquet of Boston's home court on Wednesday, putting a far bigger scare into the Celtics than Larry Brown's Charlotte Bobcats did.

Boston held Charlotte to a franchise low in scoring while coasting to a 92-59 victory.

Garnett, who missed 25 games and the playoffs last year with strained ligaments in his right knee, slipped on the floor late in the third quarter and appeared to be slow getting up.

But he dismissed concerns of an injury.

"It was just a slide into second base," said Garnett. "The umpire said I was safe."

It's a start

Gerald Henderson Jr. started his NBA career in the same place his father, Gerald Sr., started his.

The elder Henderson, who spent the first five years of his 13-year career in Boston, was in the stands as his son, a graduate of Episcopal Academy, scored 8 points for the Bobcats.

Nets sign three

The New Jersey Nets exercised contract options on starters Courtney Lee, Brook Lopez and Yi Jianlian for the 2010-11 seasons.

The Nets declined to exercise the fourth-year contract option on forward Sean Williams, the team's first-round draft pick in 2007.

A badge for Shaq

Shaquille O'Neal is looking to continue a sideline career in law enforcement now that he's in Ohio playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Spokesman John O'Brien of the Cuyahoga County sheriff's office says the Cavs center has applied to become a special deputy.

O'Neal previously served roles with law enforcement agencies in Arizona, Virginia and Florida. He must first take the Ohio police exam.
