Eagles eye Hollis Thomas for defensive line
The Eagles might want to add some heft where they are thin.
The team brought free agent defensive tackle Hollis Thomas, once a stalwart on the line for the Eagles, to the NovaCare Complex in June.
Team spokesman Derek Boyko said yesterday that Thomas, who played for the New Orleans Saints the last three seasons, was then given a physical. The mammoth tackle - 6-foot, 335 pounds as of last season - was not signed to a contract, but remains on the Eagles' radar, according to a team source.
News of Thomas' visit was first reported by scout.com.
Thomas played in only eight games, recording just seven tackles, last season as he dealt with a triceps injury. He spent 10 years with the Eagles after being originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 1996.
The Eagles have five defensive tackles under contract - Mike Patterson, Brodrick Bunkley, Trevor Laws, Dan Klecko, and rookie Jervonte Jackson. Two others, Amon Gordon and Trevor Jenkins, were released last month.
