Sports in Brief: Mayfield misses deadline for race

After successfully fighting NASCAR to get back behind the wheel following a failed random drug test, Jeremy Mayfield missed the deadline to enter this weekend's race in Florida.

His only hope for participating in tomorrow night's race at Daytona International Speedway is as a relief driver, a change NASCAR would need to approve.

Mayfield sued NASCAR over the suspension, which covered his roles as owner and driver of the No. 41 Mayfield Motorsports Toyota. On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Graham Mullen in Florida issued a temporary injunction based on the argument that NASCAR's testing system is flawed.

Public records obtained by the Associated Press show that Floyd Mayweather Jr. owes about $6.4 million to the IRS and others. But Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's manager, said he believed that the documents were inaccurate.

Philadelphia's Eddie Chambers (34-1, 18 knockouts) will face Alexander "Sascha" Dimitrenko (29-0, 19 KOs) tomorrow in a 12-round World Boxing Organization heavyweight title elimination bout in Hamburg, Germany.

The winner could be in line for a shot at Wladimir Klitschko's heavyweight title.
