Burns and Rogers winners in Phila. Triathlon Sprint

James Burns of Landenberg, Chester County, and Diane Rogers of Riverton, N.J., were the overall men's and women's winners in yesterday's Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon Sprint race along the Schuylkill.

Burns finished the combination swimming (0.9 kilometers), cycling (24K) and running (5K) event in 1 hour, 9 minutes, 47 seconds. Rogers' time was 1:20:45.

Matt Miller, 20, of St. Davids finished first in his age group and sixth overall. It was his first triathlon since a near-fatal accident in November on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia.

Jim Gosser, 29, a Neshaminy High science teacher, finished his first triathlon in 1:42:10, placing 61st in his age group. Gosser had come back from a slip-and-fall accident in Old City 28 months ago that almost cost him the use of his legs.
