A-Rod and K-Hud?
Apparently experiencing fatigue from surgery on his right hip, Alex Rodriguez will get one day of rest each week through next month's all-star break, according to an MLB.com report.
A-Rod's take on getting more rest? "That sounds like a good plan," he said. "From what I understand, that comes from Vail [Colo.] and Dr. [Marc] Philippon. We'll follow his instructions and regroup in a month. The idea is that I'll get stronger each month."
Ordinarily, we would support a cautious approach with a player returning from surgery. With A-Rod, though, it's hard to be sympathetic.
Here's the kicker: The Palm Beach Post reported that A-Rod was out partying with actress Kate Hudson in Miami Beach late Friday night, just hours after the New York Yankees had kept him out of a 9-8 win over the Marlins. He saw only late-inning action in Saturday's 2-1 loss.
The Post reported that A-Rod and Hudson had partied until Saturday at 2:30 a.m. and left together in the back seat of a chauffeured German luxury car.
What did Yanks general manager Brian Cashman have to say? "I have no idea whether that's even accurate, so I wouldn't be able to comment on it," he told Newsday.

Eye-opening stats
Early this month, Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz was given drops for dry eyes. At the time, through 51 games, Big Papi was batting a dismal .197 with 22 RBIs and just two home runs. He was dropped from the third to the sixth spot in the order.
The drops must have served Ortiz well. Over the last 12 games, the beefy DH is hitting .313 with four homers.

The Yankees filed an official protest with the commissioner's office regarding Sunday's disputed 6-5 loss to the Marlins, which included a Florida substitution mix-up in the eighth inning. A decision by Bob DuPuy, baseball's president and chief operating officer, is expected this week. . . . Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Akinori Iwamura underwent an arthroscopic procedure yesterday for a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He could return in six to eight weeks.
