Overbrook's Kania hopes to win title father once held

Overbrook's James Kania Jr. will try to become part of the only father-son duo to ever win the Golf Association of Philadelphia Amateur when he plays Concord's Conrad Von Borsig in Saturday's 36-hole final at Stonewall's Old Course in Elverson, Chester County.

James Kania Sr. won the event in 1995. Only one-father son combination has ever reached the final. William Hyndman III won three Amateurs in 1935, '58 and '65. His son, Thomas, reached the final in '71, losing to Don Morano.

In yesterday's semifinals, Kania Jr. defeated Anthony Martire of Seaview Marriott Resort & Spa, 3 and 2. Von Borsig defeated Michael McDermott of Merion, 1-up. Von Borsig got up and down from the right green-side bunker on the 18 to make par.
