Slayden's pinch-hit slam gives Reading a sweep

READING - Jeremy Slayden slugged a pinch-hit grand slam in the bottom of the ninth to propel the Reading Phillies to a 6-3 Eastern League victory over the Trenton Thunder last night.

The win gave Reading its first series sweep of the season.

The homer was the first double-A hit for Slayden, recently sent down from triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Trenton had taken a 3-2 lead in the seventh on Reegie Corona's RBI single.

Quintin Berry hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third for Reading.

ALLENTOWN - Drew Carpenter allowed one run in seven innings and Sergio Escalona pitched two shutout innings in relief as the IronPigs beat the Knights in the International League.

Lakewood 3, Hagerstown 1
