Reading's Savery improves record to 7-1

READING - Lefthander Joe Savery gave up just one run in 6 2/3 innings and raised his record to 7-1 as the Reading Phillies beat the Trenton Thunder, 4-1, in the Eastern League last night.

Savery, the Phillies' No. 1 draft choice in 2007 out of Rice University, struck out five and did not walk a batter.

Brian Stavisky homered leading off the fifth inning to provide the winning run. The first baseman was 3 for 5, and third baseman Neil Sellers was 3 for 4 with a homer.

Marcos Vechionacci homered off Sellers for Trenton's only run.

Hagerstown 3, Lakewood 1

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Michael Guerrero singled in the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th inning and the Suns went on to beat the BlueClaws in the South Atlantic League.

Chris Curran singled in an insurance run.

The game was scoreless through seven innings as Hagerstown's Brad Peacock and Lakewood's Jason Knapp traded zeros.
