Chisox rally on Greinke, beat Royals
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Chris Getz completed a Chicago comeback with a tiebreaking two-run single in the ninth inning as the White Sox rallied for a 7-4 victory yesterday, completing their first three-game sweep in Kansas City since 2005 and thwarting Zack Greinke's bid for a major-league-leading ninth win.
"Zack's human. He's not going to throw a shutout every time," Royals centerfielder Willie Bloomquist said.
Scott Podsednik singled, doubled, and tripled and scored two runs, and A.J. Pierzynski was 2 for 3 against Greinke, who had trouble with his usually reliable slider and remained 8-1.
Kansas City reliever John Bale came in with one out in the ninth and gave up Pierzynski's single just inches fair into left, then walked Brian Anderson. After Juan Cruz walked Josh Fields, Getz singled into right. While Fields was out at third base, Getz took second. He scored on Podsednik's single.
