Sports in Brief: Tebow has shoulder surgery
Florida quarterback Tim Tebow had surgery on his right shoulder yesterday but was expected to be ready for spring practice in April.
The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner, who throws lefthanded, had surgery at Shands Florida Surgical Center to remove a bone spur and reduce chronic inflammation.
Tebow hurt his shoulder in a game against Kentucky in October 2007 and aggravated the injury earlier this season.
Defensive lineman Chris Palmer, a graduate of Neumann-Goretti High, has enrolled at West Virginia and will join the Mountaineers for the spring semester.
The 6-foot-4, 290-pound Palmer played on both sides of the line in high school and had 64 tackles and three sacks as a senior in the fall of 2007. He signed with WVU in February.
Elsewhere: Missouri forward Leo Lyons has been suspended indefinitely after his arrest in Columbia, Mo., on traffic charges and for failing to pay a traffic fine from 2006. . . . Miami sophomore point guard Eddie Rios was suspended indefinitely for violating team rules. . . . Pittsburgh junior point guard Jania Sims will miss the rest of the basketball season after stress fractures were detected in both legs. . . . Former Auburn all-American Tracy Rocker, an Outland Trophy winner, is returning to his alma mater as defensive line coach, head coach Gene Chizik announced.
Utah defensive end Paul Kruger and defensive back Sean Smith say they plan to enter the NFL draft. . . . Southern Mississippi gave first-year football coach Larry Fedora a contract extension after a 7-6 season. . . . Texas linebacker Sergio Kindle says he will return to the Longhorns for his senior season in 2009.
Former horse of the year Azeri was not sold at the Keeneland horses of all ages sale in Lexington, Ky., when bids fell short of the $4.4 million reserve price set by owner Michael Paulson.
