Battle, Penn State knock off Purdue, 67-64
Talor Battle scored 21 points last night as Penn State lost an early 15-point lead before rallying to beat 14th-ranked Purdue, 67-64, in State College, Pa.
Stanley Pringle added 18 points for the Nittany Lions, (13-3, 2-1 Big Ten), off to their best start in 13 seasons.
E'Twaun Moore led the shorthanded Boilermakers (11-4, 0-2) with 21 points.
Purdue, which lost its second straight, played without injured starters Robbie Hummel and Chris Kramer.
Still, the Boilermakers clawed back by attacking the basket and playing better defense. Moore scored seven straight points during a 16-5 run capped by a Moore three-pointer that put Purdue up by 55-51 with 10 minutes, 21 seconds left.
But Purdue went its next eight minutes without a bucket, and Penn State rallied late. Battle's layup with 4:43 left made it 61-55 to help seal the victory.
Connecticut 61, West Virginia 55 - Jeff Adrien scored 17 points, helping fifth-ranked Connecticut top 25th-ranked West Virginia in Morgantown, W.Va.
Hasheem Thabeet added 13 points and 13 rebounds for Connecticut (13-1, 2-1 Big East).
Huskies coach Jim Calhoun moved past Lefty Driesell and into seventh place on the NCAA career list with 787 victories.
Neither team led by more than four points until Thabeet's inside basket put the Huskies ahead by 52-47 with six minutes left.
West Virginia (11-3, 1-1) was outrebounded by 52-33 and managed just three field goals over the final eight minutes.
Arkansas 67, Texas 61 - Michael Washington scored 22 points, including a driving dunk with 22.5 seconds remaining, to help Arkansas (12-1) upset seventh-ranked Texas (11-3) in Fayetteville, Ark.
A week after knocking off Oklahoma, then ranked fourth, the Razorbacks led Texas by 62-61 and had the ball in the final minute. Their play appeared to break down, but Washington beat his man off the dribble and suddenly had a clear path to the basket.
He was fouled as he dunked and made the free throw to put Arkansas ahead by four points.
Michigan State 67, Ohio State 58 - Kalin Lucas scored 20 points to lead eighth-ranked Michigan State (12-2, 3-0 Big Ten) past Ohio State (10-3, 1-2) in East Lansing, Mich.
Clemson 66, Alabama 59 - Trevor Booker had 19 points to help 12th-ranked Clemson (15-0) remain unbeaten by downing Alabama (10-4) in Clemson, S.C.
Adelphi 61, Philadelphia University 47 - Marcus Lemon scored 14 points for the Rams (8-3), who fell to the Panthers (7-4) in Garden City, N.Y.

Connecticut 83, South Florida 37 - Maya Moore scored 24 points and Tina Charles had 17 points and 12 rebounds, sending top-ranked Connecticut (14-0, 1-0) past South Florida (13-3, 0-2) in the Huskies' Big East opener.Syracuse 68, Rutgers 54 - Erica Morrow scored 17 points and Nicole Michael had 15 points and 14 rebounds, helping Syracuse (12-3, 1-1 Big East) upset 17th-ranked Rutgers (8-4, 0-1) in Syracuse, N.Y.
Philadelphia University 68, Adelphi 61 - Jess Romano scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Rams (7-5) past the visiting Panthers (6-6).
