Sixers to play one more at Spectrum

The 76ers say they will honor their former home, the Wachovia Spectrum, by playing a regular-season game at the memory-filled arena.

The 76ers say they will honor their former home, the Wachovia Spectrum, by playing a regular-season game at the memory-filled arena.

The NBA released its 2008-09 schedule yesterday, and the Sixers announced that they would play one of their games - against the Chicago Bulls on March 13 - at the Spectrum, which is earmarked for demolition.

"We're thrilled to bring the Sixers back home to play one more time in the Spectrum," said Ed Snider, the chairman of Comcast-Spectacor, which owns the Sixers. "This night is designed for our fans to relive the great Sixers memories there and for those fans who were never able to see them play at the Spectrum."

After a summer of wheeling and dealing in the free-agent market, the Sixers now know what their 2008-09 schedule looks like. Coming off an unexpected playoff appearance, they will play at home in three of their first four games.

The 76ers repeatedly said this off-season, which saw them add all-star power forward Elton Brand as well as backup guards Royal Ivey and Kareem Rush, that their goal is a championship.

They will begin that pursuit with home games against Toronto on Oct. 29 and New York on Oct. 31.

The Los Angeles Clippers, Brand's former team will come to town on Nov. 21.

Other home games of note include contests with Kobe Bryant's Los Angeles Lakers (Dec. 3), LeBron James' Cleveland Cavaliers (Dec. 10), the defending champion Boston Celtics (Feb. 3 and April 14) and Allen Iverson's Denver Nuggets (Feb. 18).
