Owls coach Dunphy gets 2-year extension
Temple locked up men's basketball coach Fran Dunphy through the 2013-14 season yesterday by signing him to a two-year contract extension.
Dunphy directed the Owls to a 21-13 record and the Atlantic Ten tournament title last season, earning Temple its first NCAA tournament berth in seven years. The Owls dropped a 72-61 decision to Michigan State in the first round.
Dunphy has posted a 33-31 record in two seasons since he replaced John Chaney.
"We knew when we hired Fran Dunphy two years ago that he was the right man to lead Temple basketball," said Bill Bradshaw, Temple's athletic director. "We could not have a better person, nor a better coach, at the helm."
Dunphy joined Temple after 17 seasons at Penn, where he led the Quakers to 10 Ivy League titles and nine NCAA berths.
The 59-year-old coach has a career record of 343-194 in 19 seasons.
