Atlantic City's Jones picks Syracuse
Atlantic City High's Leavander Jones attended a football camp over the weekend at Syracuse University, and before returning home, the wide receiver-defensive back accepted a scholarship to the Big East school.
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound Jones became the second player from his high school to make an oral commitment for football. Last week, two-way lineman Jeff Whittingham committed to Temple.
"The chance to get an education from a place like Syracuse and to play in the Big East was what really interested me," Jones said.
As a junior, Jones had 26 receptions for 404 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 163 yards and three TDs on 22 carries. He also had 22 tackles and two interceptions on defense.
West appoints Semar. Zach Semar, a former wrestler at Cherry Hill West, has been named coach at his alma mater. The 25-year-old Semar is a history teacher at the school and was an assistant wrestling coach the last two seasons. He replaces Tim DiPatri, who resigned during the spring.
