System problems force delays at tracks
Some races were run without bets because of glitches at the hub that processes wagers.
Gamblers at area racetracks suffered a different kind of frustration yesterday when betting-system problems forced delays and caused several races to be contested as non-wagering events.
Apparent problems at Scientific Games in Mount Laurel, the hub that processes wagers at various tracks, forced Delaware Park to run its first five races yesterday with no betting. Philadelphia Park ran its fifth race without betting.
Betting-system difficulties also occurred at Pocono Downs and in Indiana.
There were several delays in post times at Philadelphia Park.
Despite the problems, the 60-minute pick-six wager, involving regional tracks, was contested and hit by one bettor for a payoff of $384,066.60.
The winning numbers on Legs A through F were 6-1-8-10-7-11.
Philly Park record. Eternal Star set a track record at Philadelphia Park after capturing the $200,000 Donald LeVine Memorial Handicap by a nose over Xchanger.
The colt, trained by Mike Trombetta and ridden by Julian Pimentel, was clocked in 1 minute, 20.53 seconds for seven furlongs.
Flaming Bridle held the previous mark when he raced the distance in 1:20.61 in 1999.
Tuff Partners ($30.80) upset the $75,000 Caught in the Rain Stakes on the turf.
The gray mare is owned by the Pewter Stable and trained by Kate Demasi, and was ridden by David Mello.
