The Indiana Pacers have agreed to send six-time all-star forward
Jermaine O'Neal to Toronto for
T.J. Ford,
Rasho Nesterovic, and the No. 17 pick in tonight's NBA draft, the Canadian Press reported last night.
When the deal is completed, the Pacers would have the 11th and 17th picks, while the Raptors would have no selections.
Also, the Denver Nuggets traded their 20th pick to Charlotte for a future protected first-round pick. The Bobcats now have the No. 9 and No. 20 selections in the first round.
Colleges
Geno Auriemma signed a contract that will keep the Hall of Fame women's basketball coach at Connecticut through 2013, the university announced. The five-year, $8 million deal begins July 1 and includes a base salary of $300,000 in the first year, plus $1.1 million for speaking and media appearances.
Auriemma, who grew up in Norristown, was paid about $1.25 million this season and will make about $1.8 million in the new pact's final year.
Steve Detwiler slugged two homers and drove in all six runs as Fresno State won the College World Series with a 6-1 win over Georgia in Omaha, Neb. Justin Wilson gave up five hits in eight innings as the Bulldogs captured their first national championship in a men's sport.

Banned sprinter
Justin Gatlin appealed a ruling by a federal judge in Florida that prohibits him from competing in this weekend's U.S. Olympic track and field trials.
His lawyer,
Joseph A. Zarzaur Jr., sent the motion by e-mail to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta, asking that Olympics officials be prevented from barring Gatlin from the trials before the court hears his case.

Three pitchers combined on a three-hitter as Lehigh Valley beat Tri-Cape, 1-0, to advance to the finals of the Carpenter Cup softball tournament for the third consecutive year.
