Mansion's White to pick La Salle
Strawberry Mansion senior Devon White is expected to commit to La Salle today, according to a source close to the recruitment of one of the area's premier basketball players.
White could not be reached for comment yesterday.
The 6-foot-8, 220-pound center will officially make his announcement today at 1:30 p.m. at his school.
According to the source, White was leaning heavily toward the Explorers over Nebraska, Arkansas State, Niagara and Robert Morris.
"He just wants to stay close to his mother," the source said.
White averaged 11.6 points and around 12 rebounds this season en route to being named a second-team all-Southeastern Pennsylvania selection by The Inquirer. He helped lead the Scarlet Knights to their first PIAA Class AA state championship appearance. Jeannette beat Strawberry Mansion, 76-72, in overtime on March 15.
White finished that game with seven points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots.
One of his most dominant performances came in the District 12 Class AA semifinal victory over Prep Charter. White finished with 11 points, 23 rebounds and 15 blocks. Eight of those points came by way of dunks.
