Sports in Brief: Report: Bullet casings linked to Harrison's gun
The case involving Indianapolis Colts receiver Marvin Harrison took a new turn last night.
According to an ESPN report, six of the bullet casings found after an April 29 shooting near Harrison's car wash and garage came from a gun that belongs to the star player.
According to ESPN, police returned to the scene of the shooting to examine bullet holes in two residences after information was provided to police by an alleged third victim of the shooting.
Harrison's representatives say he was not present during the shooting, and that his gun was not involved. Harrison's attorney declined comment. Police say they have no suspects in the shooting, which left two people injured.
Harrison, a graduate of Roman Catholic High, has not been charged.
Rashard Mendenhall, the first-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers last month, was robbed at gunpoint along the Chicago lakefront early yesterday, his mother and agent said. The former Illinois running back was not hurt in the robbery as two people stole Mendenhall's wallet and cellular telephone, his mother, Sybil Mendenhall, told the Chicago Tribune.
Former Detroit Lions defensive end Robert Porcher has been sentenced to 50 hours of community service after pleading no contest in an assault on his ex-wife in Bloomfield Township, Mich.
Elsewhere: Atlanta Falcons linebacker Michael Boley was charged with battery after his wife, Chantelle, accused him of becoming "physical" after an argument. Boley, 25, was arrested Saturday at his Dacula, Ga., home and released on $1,200 bond.
Russia waived visa requirements for fans of Chelsea and Liverpool, the two English teams that will play in the final of soccer's European Champions League in Moscow on May 21. At least 42,000 fans are expected to travel from England to Russia for the game.
American midfielder Michael Bradley was ejected as Heerenveen lost to Ajax Amsterdam, 3-1, in a playoff for a berth in next season's European Champions League. Bradley is the son of U.S. national team coach Bob Bradley.
American Clint Dempsey signed a two-year contract extension with Fulham through 2010. Dempsey, the team's top scorer with six goals, started 28 league games this season.
Guillermo Canas rallied past Italian wild-card Gianluca Naso, 6-7 (8), 6-3, 6-2, in the Rome Masters to set up a meeting with Roger Federer, who had a first-round bye. Canas has won three of his five meetings with Federer.
