Sports in Brief: Hansbrough to return for senior year

Tyler Hansbrough wants to make one more run at the NCAA basketball championship. The North Carolina star will have to wait a little longer to find out whether two of his high-scoring teammates will be back to help him.

The Associated Press national player of the year said yesterday that he will return for his senior season. However, sophomores Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington, the former Episcopal Academy star, will declare for the NBA draft, though they won't hire agents - leaving open the possibility of their return.

Also, Brigham Young guard Lee Cummard is entering the draft, but will keep his options open by not hiring an agent.

T.J. DiLeo, a 6-foot-2 guard from Cinnaminson High, and Andrew Scootie Randall, a 6-6 forward from Communications Tech, signed letters of intent to play basketball at Temple.

"We are excited to bring in two quality local players to the Temple family," coach Fran Dunphy said. "T.J. and Scootie are not just tremendous basketball players, but quality individuals from good families. They fit in nicely for our plans next season and beyond."

A report released by the NCAA ranks the Rutgers football team in the top 10 percent of college squads in its Academic Progress Report.

The Dragons, earning the honor for the second consecutive season, are one of only two men's basketball teams in the Colonial Athletic Association to earn the award.

Five St. Joseph's teams also earned APR honors: women's basketball, softball, women's tennis, and women's and men's soccer.
