Connor among Lions heading to combine
Three football players instrumental in helping Penn State win 29 games the last three seasons, including three bowls, have been invited to participate in the NFL's scouting combine.
Two-time all-American linebacker Dan Connor, a graduate of Strath Haven High School; all-Big Ten cornerback Justin King; and record-setting quarterback Anthony Morelli are scheduled to take part.
The event will take place Feb. 20 to 26 at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.
The NFL Network will cover the combine daily. The NFL draft will be held April 26 and 27.
Ten former Nittany Lions playing in the NFL were on 2007 playoff teams, with defensive tackle Jay Alford and tackle Kareem McKenzie winning Super Bowl rings with the New York Giants.
Former Penn State all-American Kyle Brady started at tight end for the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.
There were 30 former Nittany Lions active on 2007 NFL rosters, placing Penn State in a tie for 10th nationally with Auburn in producing current NFL players.
More than 300 Nittany Lions have signed NFL contracts since Joe Paterno became head coach in 1966. The Hall of Fame coach has seen 232 of his players drafted by NFL squads.
Thirty-one Nittany Lions have been first-round NFL draft choices since 1966, including tackle Levi Brown of the Arizona Cardinals, the fifth overall pick in 2007.
Four Nittany Lions, a school record, were selected in the first round in 2003, and 11 have been chosen the last two years, including a pair of first-round selections in Brown and defensive end Tamba Hali of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Also invited to the combine are Jameel McClain, a Syracuse defensive end from George Washington High School, and Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan, a graduate of Penn Charter.
