College Basketball | UNC ups its win streak to 7

Danny Green scored a career-high 20 points, and No. 1 North Carolina overpowered Kentucky, 86-77, yesterday for the Tar Heels' fourth straight victory in the annual matchup between college basketball's winningest programs in Lexington, Ky.

The Tar Heels are off to a 7-0 start for the first time under coach Roy Williams and for the first time since the 1998-99 squad began the season 8-0.

Tyler Hansbrough finished with 14 points - 10 of 12 from the free-throw line - and a game-high 11 rebounds, his third double-double of the season.

Georgetown 61, Fairfield 49 -The No. 5 Hoyas overcame a mediocre game from Roy Hibbert and an injury scare for Jessie Sapp to improve to 5-0 for the first time since 2003, after beating Fairfield in Washington.

DaJuan Summers finished with 16 points, and Jonathan Wallace added 13. That helped make up for Hibbert's passive afternoon: seven points and seven rebounds.

Duke 79, Davidson 73 - Gerald Henderson scored 21 points and Greg Paulus had two key baskets and a steal in the final two minutes for No. 7 Duke in a win over a pesky Davidson in Charlotte, N.C.

Michigan State 80, Jacksonville 51 - Raymar Morgan scored 24 points, and Marquise Gray had 11 for the No. 10 Spartans in their 31st straight home nonconference victory in East Lansing, Mich.

Louisville 47, Miami (Ohio) 44 - Earl Clark had 10 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks, and No. 12 Louisville (5-1) held off the stubborn Redhawks (3-3) in Louisville, Ky.

Pittsburgh 78, Toledo 52 - In Pittsburgh, Sam Young had 17 points and 12 rebounds and Mike Cook added 14 points for the No. 14 Panthers, who won their fourth in a row by at least a 26-point margin.

Indiana 64, Southern Illinois 51 - Eric Gordon overcame a slow start to score 22 points and the No. 15 Hoosiers (6-1) ended the Salukis' home winning streak at 15.

Butler 65, Ohio State 46 - Freshman Matt Howard scored 23 points and No. 16 Butler (7-0) overcame a 12-point deficit in the second half.

Clemson 85, South Carolina 74 - K.C. Rivers scored 24 points and had eight rebounds to lead No. 18 Clemson over the Gamecocks in Clemson, S.C.

Gonzaga 85, Connecticut 82 - Jeremy Pargo scored eight of his 23 points over the final 4 minutes, 17 seconds and No. 19 Gonzaga held off the Huskies (5-2) in the Hartford Hall of Fame Showcase in Boston.

Brigham Young 78, Portland 54 - Lee Cummard scored 18 points and Trent Plaisted added 16 as No. 21 Brigham Young rolled over host Portland.
