College Basketball | UConn and N.C. women notch wins

Freshman Maya Moore scored 17 points to become the first Connecticut player ever to hit double figures in each of her first six starts, and the No. 2 Huskies (6-0) routed Brigham Young (3-3), 80-34, last night in Hartford, Conn.

Moore, who played just 15 minutes, hit her first four shots as Connecticut ran out to a 23-0 lead and was never challenged.

Moore hit 8 of 12 shots from the field. Tina Charles had her second double-double of the season, with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Shawnee Slade led BYU with 10 points.

North Carolina 90, Purdue 72 - Rashanda McCants scored 28 points to help the No. 4 Tar Heels (9-0) easily hand the Boilermakers (2-4) their fourth straight loss, in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Cetera DeGraffenreid added 17 points and Erlana Larkins scored 14 before fouling out for North Carolina.

The game was part of the inaugural Big Ten-ACC Challenge. North Carolina plays at No. 1 Tennessee on Sunday.

Georgia 69, Oakland 59 - Tasha Humphrey scored all 19 of her points in the second half to lead the No. 7 Bulldogs (7-0) to a come-from-behind win over the Golden Grizzlies (3-2) in Athens, Ga.

Humphrey, who had 11 rebounds, was one of three Georgia players with a double-double.

Louisiana State 77, Houston 46 - Sylvia Fowles had 19 points, seven rebounds and three blocks, and the No. 8 Tigers (5-2) whipped the Cougars (2-6) in Houston, in Coach Van Chancellor's return to the city where he led the WNBA's Comets for 10 seasons.

Baylor 81, Southeast Missouri State 51 - Rachel Allison had 20 points and 10 rebounds, and the No. 10 Bears (6-0) pounded the Redhawks (4-3) in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Texas A&M 69, Michigan 41 - Takia Starks scored 23 points and Danielle Gant added 12 as the No. 13 Aggies (5-1) downed the Wolverines (4-2) and extended their home winning streak to 20 games in College Station, Texas.

DePaul 74, Illinois-Chicago 35 - Natasha Williams and Deirdre Naughton scored 16 points apiece as the No. 17 Blue Demons (5-0) sailed past the Flames (3-3) in Chicago.

Allie Quigley chipped in 14 points and nine rebounds, and Williams had 12 rebounds for DePaul.
