hard truth
Michael Smerconish takes issue with GOP conservatives for not supporting Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava in her run for the congressional seat in New York's 23d District because they considered her too liberal ("Here's a hard truth for the hard right," Sunday).
One should be highly skeptical of Smerconish and his views of political party affiliation and allegiance. It wasn't too far in the past that Smerconish had professed that he was a Reagan Republican. However, we know now that was a complete hoax perpetrated by him.

A liberal voice that's
tough to understand
Annette John-Hall laments the firing of Marc Lamont Hill from Fox News ("Fox News strangles open debate by firing a liberal Philly voice," Sunday).
Whenever Hill appeared on the Bill O'Reilly show, I switched to another channel.
I tuned him out not because of his radical views, hip-hop expertise, or knee-jerk comebacks. Rather, Hill's rapid-fire staccato delivery and careless diction made it impossible to understand a word he said.
Given his charm, good looks, and remarkable academic achievements, it's curious that he comes up so short on his communication skills. John-Hall claims that Hill's verbal knockouts made O'Reilly wonder what hit him, but it appeared that the look of bewilderment on O'Reilly's face had more to do with trying to grasp what Hill was saying.

Let Atlantic City
share its wealth
Atlantic City is the best location for casinos in this region.
True, revenues from gambling in Atlantic City don't line Pennsylvania coffers, but some of New Jersey's share of Atlantic City gambling dollars, if effectively targeted, would solve some of Camden's problems. A better Camden will make a better Philadelphia region.
Let's think regionally.
